If there is one quality that leads to success in life, it is perseverance. And when such tenacity meets with intelligence and authenticity, you have a rare combination. Current All-Pro NFL wide receiver, Brandon Lloyd brings this type of charisma seasoned by ten years and counting of professional football experience to the prestigious New England Patriots. Lloyd’s versatile background gives him that highly sought-after ability to impart his vast talents on the beloved fans and young teammates. He is gifted with superior leaping ability, which, combined with an incredibly lithe 6’0” frame, allows him to stretch out and receive seemingly impossible catches. Brandon Lloyd is all about opportunity.
When passes are thrown his way, he catches them, in fact in 2010, he led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards on 77 receptions. Although, it all began at Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Missouri where he was a letterman in football, basketball and track. In track, he still has yet to lose his school record 7’2 high jump and in football he was a three-time All-Suburban Big Eight honoree, All-Region by the Mo-Kan Magazine and was named All-State honoree by the St. Louis Dispatch. 1n 1999, Lloyd attended the University of Illinois and had an exceptional career becoming a First-Team All-Big Ten and helping lead the Illini to a 10-2 record and a BCS berth in the Sugar Bowl. He finished his college career having the second most receiving yards (2,583) and touchdown catches (21) in Illinois history and ranking third in all-time receptions.
Lloyd was drafted in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, where he stayed for two years. Lloyd then spent some time with the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears, however, his jaw dropping season came with the Denver Broncos in 2009 where he was reunited with Kyle Orton from Chicago. That season he led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,448 and was named 2nd Team All-Pro, earning him a spot on the Pro Bowl team. In 2011, Lloyd was traded to the St. Louis Rams where he raked in fifty-one catches and on March 17th, 2012 he signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots worth over $12 million increasing his star power.
More inspiring than Brandon’s football talent are his accomplishments away from the gridiron. Gifted with an engaging smile and an intriguing disposition, Brandon can often be found gracing the sets of ESPN, NFL Network, NBC Sports and many others. He is known to attend high profile red carpet events such as the ESPY Awards, Gucci, The Breeders Cup, movie premieres and the like. Even more impressive are his philanthropic endeavors, which include Money X Live and Blessings in a Backpack. Money X Live is the premiere financial literacy program in the country that has support from over forty top celebrities. In fact, Brandon is hosting “Brandon Lloyd Financial Day” on November 28th to teach children the importance of financial literacy. Blessings in a Backpack partners with America to ensure impoverished elementary school children are fed on the weekends throughout the school year. Brandon specifically provides backpacks to children in Missouri.
From the football field to the studio, this media savvy leader has accomplished it all and the story is nowhere close to nearing the end. In fact, it is just beginning of a new chapter with a new team and a new outlook on what is important. “I think that’s really what it comes down to.
